Promising solutions to the travel needs of rural populations have enjoyed welcome showcasing at recent industry events hosted by ITS (UK). Lack of ITS infrastructure and easily accessible public transport information have emerged as key challenges. Under the Informed Rural Traveller project, the University of Aberdeen's dot.rural Research Hub has launched a GetThereBus app. Designed to give passengers real-time information on bus locations - with the emphasis on delays and disruptions - this is being targeted at areas where real-time at-stop displays are rare and many services run on a 'hail-and-ride' basis.
