ITS provides innovative platform for the future

TEC: ITS (UK) says it's refreshing its vision of ITS during 2013. What does this aim to achieve? SN: Over its first 20 years, ITS (UK) was focusing heavily on technologies such as tracking systems, satellite navigation, signing and messaging, and - but only to a limited extent - in-vehicle systems. We now face new challenges, not least as IV becomes increasingly sophisticated and relevant to applications in traffic management and information, and road safety. We need to keep up with developments in automated driving, the implications of ITS for the elimination of accidents, the emergence of new, information-driven methods of reducing congestion - and, more far-reachingly - the ways in which technology is starting to alter people's entire travel patterns.
