NORWEGIAN TUNNEL GETS RADAR AID

A tunnel refurbishment project on two subsea road tunnels in Norway have deployed radar-based Automatic Incident Detection (AID) systems as part of their traffic management and safety infrastructure. Following a tender process, Bergen-based systems integrator Trafsys, selected the ClearWay AID system from Navtech Radar. Subsequently, 24 of the ClearWay high-frequency radar units were installed in the 4.5km (2.8 miles) long Mastrafjord Tunnel and the 5.8km (3.6 miles) long tolled Byfjord Tunnel, which are both near Stavanger in southern Norway. Navtech's sophisticated 'Witness' analytical software platform was also integrated into the SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) management and safety system at the tunnels' control room.
