Think back to your journey to work this morning. When you turned out of your road did you enter an A or B road? Were the traffic lights working properly, was there congestion near the school and then through the town, was their a warning of an accident as you joined the motorway? What did the VMS sign say? Where there warnings to slow down? There are then more delays. The clock is ticking. You are going to be late for work but if you come off at next junction-which route do you take now? This could well be a typical snapshot of any average journey in the UK on any morning during the week. This provides testament to one of the biggest challenges facing local authorities-the implementation of integrated transport systems across our cities and towns and the delivery of effective information to the public as they make their journey.
