Just thinking.... Road Safety: to flash or not to flash

On a somewhat grey and nondescript Tuesday morning commute during Road Safety Week, as it happens, a motorist driving towards me excitedly flashed his headlights, endeavouring to make myself and other motorist aware of a mobile speed camera van parked, very visibly I have to say, further up the road. This got me thinking....was that driver's actions the right thing to do? The number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) on the UK road network every year is a figure that saddens all of us. Whilst road safety has improved dramatically in the last ten years, in 2014 there were actually 4% more people killed (1,775) than in 2013 . Also the number of those people seriously injured rose by 5.3% to 22,807. Indications for 2015 suggest that there has been a slight improvement on these numbers which is good news, but better still is Vision Zero - a road safety campaign that aims to achieve the target of zero fatalities or serious injuries caused from road traffic on our streets .
