The May 2016 publication of a working draft of the world's first open standard for audio wayfinding, using wireless technology, marks a huge step forward for vision-impaired (VI) public transport users. Around two million people in the UK are blind or have severely restricted sight, and the number is set to rise as people live longer and have a greater chance of incurring medical conditions that affect their quality of vision.
