摘要

In the last couple of years, industry observers cannot fail to be struck by the enormous public and government attention being paid to "Connected and Autonomous Vehicles" (CAV) which even has its own inter-Departmental government unit - the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV). As ITS (UK) Chair I was invited to a CCAV workshop just before Christmas which, for the first time, focussed on "connected" rather than "autonomous" (whatever that means!). We were addressed by Government Minister John Hayes and it was interesting to note that the majority of the potential societal and commercial benefit of CAVs, certainly for the next 10 years, is seen as arising from connectivity.
