The structured trade finance (STF) market has historically been dominated by a handful of systemic global banks, accounting for up to 80% of the funding requirements needed to facilitate the movement and trade of commodities globally. Despite the continued growth in global trade and demand for STF as a product class, the traditional lenders have been visibly reducing their exposure to the types of facilities, the emerging economies and ultimately the borrowers where STF is most prevalent.
