Research aiming to provide an insight into the concept of tourist experience is very important, as tourist experiences influence numerous other concepts, such as: the provision of competitive tourism products/services; tourism sustainability; destination management; well being and tourists satisfaction. It is the aim of this book to investigate and provide empirical evidence of the multi-dimensionality and dynamic nature of tourist experience. To achieve that, the book compiles 13 chapters written by an international body of researchers that look into the experiences sought and gained by a great variety of tourists. In this vein, the book analyses the concept of tourist experiences by effectively addressing the following issues: the diversity and different forms of tourism and tourist experiences; the provision of a solid theoretical underpinning to the conceptualisation and operationalisation of the construct namely the tourist experience; reliability of conclusions by triangulating findings across various forms of tourists, tourist activities and international destinations. Every chapter provides a critical review of the related literature as well as empirical findings demonstrating the application and implications of this theory on a specific type of tourism activity or tourist. The book is reader-friendly which is demonstrated in its writing style and language. The book adopts a positive psychological approach for analysing tourist experience, and so, the book chapters are structured into three parts that revolve around the three major positive psychological outcomes that personal holiday experiences can produce, namely: happiness and humour; meaning and self-actualisation; and health and restoration.
