WETLANDS OF PAKISTAN AS WATERFOWL HABITAT

The wetlands of Pakistan are precious ecological resources. In addition to several other benefits, they play a vital role in providing wintering habitats and resting grounds to thousands of waterbirds, including geese, ducks, coots and numerous waders that migrate in the winter from their breeding grounds in the north to relatively less colder parts in the south. These birds are not only important from a recreational point of view, but have tremendous scientific importance as they are indicators of our environmental health, and yet very little is known about their migratory behavior.
