Wool is well known to Rali Burleson of Scottsdale, Arizona: She is the director of Arizona Make It with Wool (MIWW). Rali was inspired to create this coat when she saw a similar one in the 2012 MIWW competition. She chose Burda 7587 and opted for 100-percent wool houndstooth check fashion fabric, Bemberg lining, and bias-cut cotton batiste to support the hem allowance. This project taught Rali a lot about coat construction, including better trimming, clipping, stabilizing, and catchstitching methods. She also found more efficient ways to work with bias-cut fabric. She discovered, for example, that bias-cut wool garments may not need to be underlined and that a small check pattern with wider seam allowances makes it easier to create chevrons at the seams.
