The fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has attracted increasing attention as a strengthening method for concrete filled steel tube (CFT) columns because of its lightweight and high strength. Nevertheless, related investigations on seismic performance of FRP confined high-strength rectangular CFT columns are rarely reported. Herein, a series of experimental and numerical analysis on the seismic performance of FRP confined rectangular CFT columns using high-strength thin-walled steel tubes and high-strength concrete are presented considering the following parameters: aspect ratio, axial compression ratio, number of FRP layers and fiber direction. The seismic performance of specimens under reversed cyclic lateral loading was evaluated by discussing the failure modes, hysteretic behaviors, capacity degradation, stiffness degradation, ductility, and strains. The numerical models were developed and verified by the test results, which could accurately simulate the mechanical behaviors and the failure of specimens. The observations drawn from this research might provide a good basis for the application of high-strength material and FRP-strengthened CFT structures.
