Lotus Notes/Domino software has great backward compatibility, which means that the most recent Notes/Domino releases can present older Notes databases without issue. As Notes/Domino capabilities progress from one release to the next, however, a point usually comes when Notes/Domino developers want to update their favorite applications to keep pace with the newer capabilities and evolving user expectations. By now, release 5-era applications look a little dated. Notes/Domino release 7 is loaded with application-development features that can enhance the look and feel, performance, and functionality of existing applications. In this two-part article, I show you how to update an older Notes application to take advantage of the many Notes/Domino capabilities that have been developed since 1999.
