Kathy Stansfield reports on this IStructE/CIBSE joint evening meeting which explored how engineers can help make a difference. This joint meeting on 28 February consisted of a discussion of the issues raised by introductory presentations from four speakers rather than a formal paper. They captured the mood of the times, ranging wide across serious and complex issues connected with the future of the planet in the face of increasing evidence of global warming and climate change, placing engineers in a pivotal position to act positively. Together they presented a wake-up call for collective action from the engineering community.
