2012 London Olympic Stadium design unveiled

The long-awaited design for London's Olympic Stadium features a 'stadium bowl' holding the 25 000 permanent seats, surrounded by 55 000 demountable seats. An Olympic Stadium with such a large demountable element and mix of temporary and permanent seating has never been attempted before. The cost is estimated at £498M. Legacy is the watchword of the 2012 Olympics, and this design represents the start of a new era for Olympic Stadium design - more use of temporary elements combining the high-level performance needed for a major sports event alongside the long term needs of the community.
