Advanced fire engineering of structures: a new guide from IStructE

Fire safety engineering of structures is no longer in the exclusive realm of the academic and the individual specialist. After many years of research and development and the subsequent conversion of that work into sensible practical guidance the possibility now exists for many engineers to understand and deliver this type of consultancy. As is normal for the structural engineer there is an essential requirement to understand and facilitate the needs of the client and other disciplines in order to find the best solutions. The same applies in this case where there is a necessity to work with the fire engineer and the architect to maximise the value accounting for capital, construction and maintenance costs.
