The Institution's Centenary year starts on 4 October 2007 with the inauguration of the 88th and first ever woman as President. Sarah Buck of BSW Consulting, Exeter will lead the Institution through its Centenary year as it celebrates the profession and the vital contribution structural engineers make to society and the built environment. The Centenary anniversary itself on 21 July 2008 will be marked with a council meeting at the Ritz Hotel in London replicating the very first meeting when the Institution was formed on 21 July 1908 (as the Concrete Institute). The date will be commemorated by a special issue of the Journal.
