Pontoon-type very large floating structures

Very large floating structures (VLFS) are defined by Suzuki as not only floating structures with large length dimensions, but ones which must also have lengths larger than the characteristic length defined by the ratio of structural stiffness and buoyant spring stiffness. Owing to these structural dimensions, elastic responses in VLFSs are more dominant than their rigid-body motions.
