The Tameer Towers development is a five-building, 9.5Mft~2 complex that will be the focal point for the Shams Abu Dhabi master plan and a new icon for the Middle East. Developed by Tameer Holdings Investments, the centrepiece of the complex will be a dramatic 300m high commercial tower with one of the world's largest atriums. The project is due for completion in 2011 and is set to be one of the world's tallest precast concrete buildings.rnThis article concentrates on the lateral stability elements of the commercial tower. Originally designed as cast in situ concrete, the contractor favoured precast construction for the majority of the building owing to the fast-track construction programme. Enabling works started on site in October 2007 and the design was completed in June 2008.
