Obituary: Dr T. N. Subba Rao, FIStructE FNAE, FIE(I), FICE 27 March 1928 - 13 August 2008

Dr T. N. Subba Rao (pictured right) joined Gammon India Ltd in Mumbai as an apprentice Engineer in June 1950, immediately after his graduation. He became a Director of the Company at the young age of 34. Over the next 40 years he became Technical Director (until 1970), Joint Managing Director (1970-1972) and Managing Director (1973-1991). After his retirement, he started his own firm, Construma Consultancy in Mumbai, India. Dr Rao and his team of engineers developed Gammon India Ltd into a major construction firm undertaking prestigious projects including long span bridges and heavy civil engineering works. He diversified the firm's activities and became founding Director of its sister companies, GILCON Projects Limited, Gammon Nirman Limited and Gammon Turnkeys Limited. He was also a Director of Gammon Middle East.
