SIRS roofing system finds favour with great and small alike

Since achieving NHBC approval in 2007, Donaldson Timber Engineering's SIRS roofing system has been used by house builders large and small. SIRS (Structural Insulated Roofing System) incorporates SIPS panels, roof trusses and cassette floors and, most importantly, excludes purlins. The system incorporates BBA components and PEFC timber and has gained TRADA and NHBC approval. Persimmon Homes was one of the first into to arena, trialling the system successfully at its Living I site at Irlam in Manchester, using it in the 'Energy House'. Opal Homes has ordered the system for its Anstruther site in Fife, where SIRS complements Opal's 'thin joint' system of build, bringing together two forms of MMC. Another developer, Lomond Homes, is trialling the system on a roof which was too wide for other systems. The Westbury Partnership has used the system in Coventry where a 'room in the roof house was deemed 'ideal for SIRS.' Many self-builders have also adopted the system with a recent order coming from Dorset.
