The challenge of the unknown

Keynote speaker at the recent Young Researchers' Conference, Dr Sarah Williamson (Senior Engineer, Atkins), recalled her time as PhD student 10 years ago as 'a difficult and often lonely path' but, she told the assembled students, it was one which brought rewards. Her interest had been in building and testing things, the behaviour of existing structures and corrosion in reinforced concrete.
