Since our earliest industrial days, we have embraced the strength associated with the processing of iron and steel. Paving the way, Robert Hooke's observations in 1676 on the elastic behaviour of steel were testament to its greatest strength. By 1880, volumes of mild steel were being produced to relatively consistent levels of quality, proliferating its use for construction.
