Main contractor VHE has installed a 110t rail bridge as part of the construction of the £15M contract for Cudworth and West Green Bypass for Barnsley MBC.The 22m long bridge was lifted into position by a 800t Demag AC700 crane during a 28h rail possession. However, the main contractor together with specialist rail subcontractors CML required only 30min to lift the single span bridge deck, which was fabricated by Lanarkshire Welding, in to position.rnThe route of the 5.2km single carriageway runs through the embankment underneath the existing single track rail line connecting manufacturer Ardagh Glass with the Wakefield to Grimethorpe rail line. Rail freight has been diverted along 300m of temporary rail on the Monk Bretton Branch line, constructed by VHE, which will be removed when the original line is reinstated in early July.
