The winners of this year's Structural Steel Design Awards were announced at a ceremony at London's Science Museum on July 9. They were Wimbledon's new Centre Court closing roof, Cabot Circus Roof in Bristol, Oxford University Biochemistry Building, Kew Garden's Xstrata Aerial Walkway, and Castleford Footbridge in Yorkshire.rnThe awards recognise the excellence achievable in structural and architectural design with the use of steel. Judges selected the Award winning entries from a shortlist of 22, all of which scored highly in efficiency, cost effectiveness, aesthetics, sustainability and innovation.rnJudges Chairman, David Lazenby, said 'The shortlist includes entries from a wide geographical spread from city centres to the top of a mountain, and a variety of types and sizes; we have blockbusters and "little gems", ranging from the heroic to the delicate.
