摘要

The first Council meeting of 2010 took place on 15 January, when Norman Train, pictured above, was inaugurated as the 90th President of the Institution by outgoing President, Graham Owens.rnAs a result of the presentation to the October Council meeting by CIC Chairman, Keith Clarke, urging the Institution to take a proactive role with Government over climate change, letters were sent to the UK, Australia and Canada governments emphasising the role of structural engineers (prior to the Copehangen conference), and a brief guide to embodied carbon measurement is being prepared. Council members welcomed the action, but wanted to see more. Sarah Fray, Director Engineering and Technical Services, agreed that the Institution was following the agenda rather than providing leadership at the moment, but hoped to change that.
