Mandatory CPD

Retirement brings on 'reflection' based on experience. Both are offered in this letter. I have read many letters on the subject of CPD and can only question the use of the term 'mandatory'. Colleagues New, Taylor, Fordyce and Gabrielcjyk have attempted to clarify the subject, as has Barry Mawson in his article on 'CPD without courses'. At a Scottish Branch meeting in March of this year I was asked to present my personal view of CPD submissions and did so. Some 85% of the 125 engineers attending indicating they have experienced difficulty in compiling and submitting their CPD record, and 100% of those attending indicated their preference for my approach.
