India's aviation sector is one of the fastest growing in the world with private airlines accounting for a majority of the domestic aviation market. The process of development of airports through Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in the country began with an experiment in Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in 1993. Subsequently with a new policy, two new greenfield airports were approved and completed for Bangalore (Bengaluru International Airport) and Hyderabad (Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport). Later, in 2006, the airports at Mumbai and Delhi were handed over to Joint Venture (JV) companies.
