2011 Goodwood sculpture makes fleeting appearance at Festival

The central sculpture for this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed (1-3 July) was unveiled at the beginning of the month. Sponsored by Jaguar to celebrate 50 years of the timeless E-Type, this year's sculpture is 27m (90ft) high and has been carved into the form of an E-Type from 150t of steel (equivalent to 122 Jaguar E-Types). The sculpture comprises half a kilometre of 1220mm (4ft) diameter steel tubes, while the surface is covered with 4t of paint. Its wheels are themselves the size of an ordinary car while 90t of concrete provide support for the structure under the ground.
