Structural Steel Design Awards 2011

Brighton & Hove Albion's new football ground, The American Express Community Stadium, was one of four Award winning entries in this year's Structural Steel Design Awards, which were announced at a ceremony at Kings Place, London on 7 July, Three other new structures were judged equally worthy to stand alongside the iconic Sussex sports arena and were the Marks & Spencer Distribution Facility in Bradford; Cannon Place in London; and Antony Gormley's 'Exposure' (affectionately known as the Crouching Man) sculpture currently sitting on a polder in The Netherlands. The Awards, now in their 43rd year, are presented in recognition of the excellence achievable in using steel for structural and architectural design. The judges selected the award-winners from an entry shortlist of 18, all of which scored highly in efficiency, cost effectiveness, aesthetics, sustainability and innovation.
