EEFIT Technical Meeting - Japan's earthquake

Members of the Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) recent mission to Japan will present their observations and findings at a meeting entitled lessons from the MW9 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of 11 March 2011' to be held at The Institution of Structural Engineers, 11 Upper Belgrave Street, London SW1X 8BH on 14 July 2011 at 18:00 (refreshments at 17:30). An EEFIT team of nine members spent 5 days in Japan's Tohoku region (May 29 - June 2). On most days the team was split into three separate groups covering most of the affected areas in Iwate and Miyagi prefectures. The results of their investigations of the damage sustained (both by the earthquake and the resultant tsunami), interviews with academics and officials in the tsunami-affected regions, evacuation procedures and disaster management plans, together with the damage to energy plants will all be presented.
