The author is to be congratulated on his excellent article concerning the structural collapse of temporary structures, as well as those permanent structures that are susceptible to 'snap-through' buckling e.g. dome roof structures. From the reported collapses many researchers erroneously attributed the failures to a variety of causes, which included construction tolerances and quality control rather than the inadequate design method based on linear analysis and the effective length concept.
