The London 2012 International Broadcast Centre

This paper presents the technical complexities and the structural solutions in achieving the design of the International Broadcast Centre.rnSeveral key factors had to be considered at all times throughout the design:rn1. The building was publically funded therefore economic design had to be achieved.rn2. The deadline was fixed and any betterment to the project programme was of huge benefit, particularly with respect to the fit-out phase.rn3. The 'temporary' nature of the building and its legacy use.rn4. The building had to provide appropriate accommodation for the world's media.rn5. Buildability.rnAll these aspects were fundamental to producing a good design. Testament to this is a completed building, designed and built to an accelerated programme and to a budget much lower than originally envisaged (Figure 16). This, outcome could not have been achieved without the close collaboration of the entire project team. It was a truly challenging project with an Olympic outcome.
