The Design-and-Build competition was originally launched to mark the centenary visit of President Sarah Buck in 2008, although only Barbados was able to host their competition in time for that visit. Since then there have been Barbados competitions in 2009 and 2010, Trinidad competitions in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and Jamaica competitions in 2010 and 2011. The Caribbean Regional Group hosts these competitions jointly with the local engineering associations.
