Sway of portal frames

While reading the article by Mark Evernden, Anthony Darby and Tim Ibell on p. 20 of The Structural Engineer, August 2013 and looking at the diagrams of bending moments on a sample of portal frames, I was reminded of a mistake that I used to make when designing portal frames, even after I had passed the final exam in 1958 and became an Associate Member. The mistake was not even thinking that a portal frame might sway.
