Sharing design experience

Jim O'Rourke, writing from Telford, has sent us the following note in which he expresses his disappointment with the standard of teaching delivered at his own university in the early 1970s compared with the quality of teaching of students at Salford today. How good it was to read the article about developing a new approach to teaching structural analysis and design at the University of Salford (March 2013). I did my degree at a prestigious university in the early 1970s. I still remember with horror my 'structures' lectures in the 2nd year.
