Wilfred Eastwood

The Institution is saddened to announce the death of Dr Wilfred Eastwood BEng, PhD, CEng, FIStructE, FICE on 2 September 2014. Born in South Yorkshire, Bill Eastwood studied at Sheffield University, graduating in 1944. Following lecturing appointments at the Universities of Manchester, Aberdeen and Sheffield, he became Professor of Civil and Structural Engineering at Sheffield University in 1964, where over six years he built the Department into one of the largest in the UK. He entered full-time consultancy in 1970 as a senior partner in Eastwood and Partners, covering all aspects of structural engineering.
