The life of this institution follows one of those great unwritten rules by which we are all governed - for every one thing you tick off the 'to-do list', you shall add to the list in greater number! And so it should be, for this institution is certainly ambitious in its vision; its plans for growth and development; the continuous desire to do things better; the challenge to find new ways to support an international membership across a rapidly changing world; the responsibility to engage externally; to inform and influence when appropriate. In a year-end article it might be tempting to look at many of the items (of which there are many) ticked off in the 2015 to-do list. Publicists would, I am sure, encourage this, confident that it would reinforce the support of the reader. My preference though is to let the Institution's developments of the year speak for themselves, save for the acknowledgement that they don't happen without the most fabulous and loyal dedication and hard work of many members in tandem with the Institution's own staff. 2016 have recently been signed off by the Institution Board and with them a whole raft of things move higher up the Institution's to-do list, not least of which is to continue listening to the needs of members and to press ahead with our creation and nurturing of 'community groupings' of interests and topics. Focused Board task groups will be established to consider how the Institution can more fruitfully engage with employers, and to examine our approach to diversity and inclusion. We are really excited about plans to host an event designed and created by our increasingly active Young Members' Panel, which we are sure will catapult the Institution further towards an era of shared leadership.
