The presence of electrical services on site poses a danger to workers and can influence both groundworks and the sequencing of general structural work. The previous article in the series ('No. 36: Electrical work on site') described the general dangers posed by electricity on site and identified isolation of electrical circuits as a key activity to control risks. This article provides more detail on the need for electrical isolation. It is of particular relevance to refurbishment and demolition projects. Procedures and responsibilities are explained to demonstrate the appointments clients should make. This will assist members in judging whether clients should seek additional advice. It also provides information of use to those acting as CDM co-ordinators (CDMCs) under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.
