Institution creates new Seismic and Dynamic Events Panel

The Institution is forming a new Seismic and Dynamic Events Panel to build on the work of the Earthquake Engineering Advisory Working Group (EEAWG). The Panel, which will be chaired by John Viise CEng, MIStructE (of Thornton Tomasetti), will include experts from regions around the world where seismic issues may be encountered in practice. The Panel will work to augment rather than duplicate existing resources. Operating under the umbrella of our Design Practice, Risk and Structural Safety Committee, the Panel will use its first meeting to establish initial priorities, to be guided and informed by five main headings: 1. External relations 2. Seismic design guidance 3. Training and certification 4. Resilience building in developing countries 5. Internal Institution matters.
