This month Ron has selected a sketch by , produced for a bridge design project at university. Jialei receives an e-book of her choice from the Institution's current catalogue. Jialei Ding's sketches were produced during her final year at Sheffield University as part of a bridge design project. They have a nice clarity about them and successfully illustrate structural form and load paths in both two and three dimensions. The sketches appear to have been produced with a definite purpose in mind and progressed from a simple elevation to a more complex 3D drawing showing greater structural detail. Perhaps the next step would have been to attempt a sequence of sketches to demonstrate how the bridge would be erected. Jialei's sketches appear to be straight-edge guided, which is acceptable, but in my opinion freehand would have given her work a slightly more personal touch.
