Kant and the Limits of Autonomy

[...] particularly interesting in Shell's many-faceted analysis in this part of the book is the significance that she assigns to the way in which Kant faces and overcomes the theoretical difficulties on the way toward the principle of autonomy: it is a lesson in moral education, a lesson on the necessary perplexities that anyone seriously reflecting on the core moral problem, namely, on the problem of freedom's relation to law, will (and should) inevitably encounter.
