Plato on Moral Expertise

For different reasons, neither Socrates himself, his daimonion, the laws of Athens, nor the philosopher ruler from the Republic can serve as moral experts. [...] Jenks argues that the search for moral expertise in other people or in human institutions is irrelevant to a person's own pursuit of expertise because of the wellknown Platonic paradox: people cannot recognize who are experts unless they already are experts themselves.
