The scale and complexity of a construction project determine the structure of the construction/project management. The example illustrated in this article, with its wide range of sub-project work and schedule interlinkages, requires a project structure that can fulfil the organisational tasks identified while always keeping sight of the project objective. The core responsibility of the project management is to perform the contracted work on schedule and to the required quality standard, while keeping watch on the time, funds and resources utilised. Overseeing project implementation therefore entails setting constantly updated targets to ensure the project objective is met and that achievement of the objective can be properly controlled within a reasonable time Application of the project management system enables the project organisation to be optimised and regular project information to be provided (time, cost an quality control).%Die Ausführung von komplexen Bau-und Ausrüstungsleistungen verlangt ein Steuerungsinstrument, damit 1. die vertraglich vereinbarten Zwischen-und Endtermine, 2. die Koordination insbesondere zwischen den Bau- und Ausrüstungsgewer-ken, 3. die Abstimmung der Einzeigewerke im Hinblick auf die Gesamtfertigstellung, 4. die Qualitätsanforderungen sowie 5. Abrechnung und Nachtragsmanagement entsprechend erfüllt werden können. Am Beispiel des Bauvorhabens S-Bahn Lückenschluß Schönholz - Hennigsdorf, Abschnitt Berlin-Tegel - Landesgrenze Berlin/Brandenburg wird die Arbeitswei- se der Projektsteuerung für einen Gene-ralunternehmer vorgestellt.
