The GIBIS system (the German acronym stands for "operations control and information system for unit train maintenance") is a comprehensive solution for controlling and organising unit train maintenance work on local trains and regional express trains of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, including monitoring of the technical installations of the workshop buildings. The system is made up of modular packages for maintenance, sidings, damage prevention, operations control system, inventory management, accounting and inventory information.%In Cottbus wird z. Z. eine Fahrzeugwerkstatt für die Instandhaltung und Behandlung von Regionalexpreßzügen der Bundesländer Berlin und Brandenburg sowie für Regionalzüge und Stadtexpreßzüge der Region Südbrandenburg errichtet. Inbetriebnahmetermin ist der Fahrplanwechsel 1998 (Abb. 1). Zur Umsetzung der rechnergestützten Produktionsplanung und -Steuerung sowie der Steuerung und Überwachung der gebäudetechnischen Anlagen wird ein Ganz-zug-Instandhaltungs-, Betriebsleit- -und Informations- System (GIBIS) installiert.
