Implementing Electronic Document Management on a Major Nuclear Design & Build Project

The £140m Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP), part of BNFL's Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) management scheme, was awarded to the joint venture partnership of Kvaerner, AEA Technology and Tarmac Construction International (now Carillion). Kvaerner are responsible for design, project management, procurement and commissioning; AEAT for specialist in-cell design and safety cases; Carillion for construction and installation. A major subcontract was let by the joint venture (JV) to Design Group Partnership for building and civil design. A task force was set up in the Stockton-on-Tees offices of Kvaerner and manned up to a peak of over two hundred staff.
