Hotly debated for over a decade, and after a difficult passage through the Commons and the Lords, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 is at last on the Statute books - but will it do what is needed and help to save lives? With the previous legislation in the UK, following a work-related death, it was necessary to prove that a senior person in the organisation was guilty of manslaughter by being "the controlling mind", for the organisation itself to also be convicted of manslaughter.
