Dexterity, desire and intellect are all determining factors when it comes to plucking trainee pilots from a pile of applicants. But flight schools - and airlines - will also judge candidates on their character and social skills.rnThere's huge emphasis put on the personality factor during flight school selection and training, because when a new pilot applies for jobs they will need to demonstrate to the airlines that they possess good communication skills and likability, explains Mike Langley. Low-cost airline pilot Frank Simmons agrees: 'The recruitment pilot is thinking: "Can I sit next to you for 12 hours going across the Atlantic or are you going to bore the pants off me?" They're also looking for the sort of person who's approachable and open minded.'
