DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT DOWN ROUTE

Donating to charity is something we all probably do in one shape or form, but some BALPA members go one step further and donate items directly to the people that need them when they are downroute on a trip. Pilots (especially those that fly long-haul) are in a unique position to be flying frequently to destinations that may benefit from items that we, in the UK, have easy access to. It can often be such simple things as pens, nappies or even string.rnWe have spoken to a few members that have taken donations down-route and all have found it a hugely rewarding experience. Indeed, sometimes just the presence of a visitor can be as valuable as the donations they bring. One member spoke of how excited the children inrnone African orphanage were to have a visit from a pi lot: 'I phoned ahead to see if the children might appreciate me coming in uniform and was told that they would love it.
