BALPA RALLIES AGAINST EXTENDED FLYING HOURS

As reported in the October/ November issue of The Log, the 5th October saw a Europe-wide day ofrnaction by hundreds of pilots and cabin crew members at airports across the continent and in Brussels itself.The message was simple: the EU must take notice of the scientific evidence that underlines the risks of extended flying hours, when in 2012 the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) takes control of Flight Time Limitations rules from national aviation authorities. Currently, all EU member states have had to operate under EU-OPS regulation 'Subpart Q', but thanks to the UK's enviable safety record and BALPA campaigning in Westminster, the EU accepted that the UK could use CAP 371 until 2012. However, this is when the UK's opt-out ends.
